  • Applicant must be unemployed,
  • Applicant must be a South African Citizen,
  • Applicant must be aged between 18 and 35,
  • Applicant must have passed grade 12 or any other higher qualification,

  • All criminology-related degrees, including postgraduate studies.

The SASSETA—Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority Bursary was developed to promote continuous learning, skills transfer and development opportunities within the safety and security sector.

These organisations offer vocational skill training and are accountable for establishing and managing programmes in specific industries and sectors within their jurisdiction, including internships, skill programming, apprenticeships, and traineeships.

Fields Covered

SASSETA is inviting all South African youths aged 18 to 35 years to apply for the bursary within the selected programmes or disciplines, such as:

  • LLB,
  • Nursing,
  • Pharmacy,
  • Psychology,
  • Paralegal Studies,

  • Security Management,
  • IT programme Analysis,

Allowance

SASSETA bursary is provided only once in an academic year, and students can renew it every year until they complete the programme duration. According to SASSETA guidelines, a student or applicant who has applied for this bursary must score at least 60% of aggregate marks in all their modules, including the major subjects.

The allowances provided by the SASSETA bursary are:

Full-Time Programmes

For every academic year, students or applicants will be provided R80 000, and this amount will include:

  • Tuition Fees,
  • Textbooks and other study materials,
  • University-approved or on-campus accommodation with food allowances.

Distance Learning or Part-time Programmes

For every academic year, students or applicants will be provided R35 000, and this amount will include:

  • Tuition Fees,
  • Textbooks and other study materials.

Closing Date

The application window for SASSETA Bursary programme closes by the last week of January. This year, the bursary application closed on 27 January 2023 at 23:59:59. That means applications for 2024 are currently closed, and applicants can apply for the academic year 2025.
