Entrepreneurship

 

This course explores the key requirements of an entrepreneurial intervention within a specific business environment. Entrepreneurship is evaluated in relation to personal attributes, personalities and abilities. The economic environment of the entrepreneur is discussed with the purpose of equipping the participants with the ability to analyse the environment in which the new venture is planned. Participants are required to develop and present a business plan for the proposed new venture.

Upon completing this course, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate the personal characteristics and skills required of an entrepreneur to facilitate the successful start-up and operation of a new venture
  • Examine the advantages and disadvantages of entrepreneurship
  • Interrogate the principles of an intrapreneur
  • Evaluate an entrepreneurial process
  • Critically evaluate opportunities
  • Critically evaluate entrepreneurial employment opportunities
  • Critically assess the viability of a new venture
  • Evaluate business failure
  • Critically review ethics in business
  • Evaluate the capital requirements, assets, revenue and costs of a new venture
  • Identify and compare all short-term and long-term funding options offered by the finance industry for new ventures
  • Interpret income statements and balance sheets
  • Examine current legal and human resource legislation
  • Evaluate business risks
  • Identify, gather and analyse the relevant information needed to compile a business plan
  • Establish and prioritise business, financial and operational goals and objectives for a new venture
  • Design and present business, financial and marketing plans for a new venture
  • Identify information resources of available businesses and new markets accessed through the tendering process
  • A Certificate of Competence will be awarded to all students who successfully submit and pass their assignments, and exams*
  • A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to all students who successfully submit and pass their assignments
  • A Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to students who attended the training session

*On successful completion of this short learning programme, the participant may be considered for exemption from the equivalent course in the respective qualification, provided that he or she meets qualification entrance criteria. Exemption fees may apply.
