Job Title: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Junior Tutors and Markers (X3 Available)

 

Department: Law School

Location: Johannesburg

Reports to: Academic Head / Head of School

1. Job Purpose

A newly established Law SchoolTo provide academic support to students enrolled in the fully accredited LLB programme by marking student assessments, assisting in classes and tutorials, and assisting in the delivery of course content. The Junior Tutor and Marker will work closely with faculty staff to ensure that students receive the necessary assessments and guidance and feedback to excel in their studies.

 

2. Key Responsibilities

– Assessment and Marking:

– Mark assignments, essays, and examination papers in accordance with the grading rubrics provided.

– Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their legal writing and analytical skills.

– Ensure that marking is completed accurately and within the specified deadlines.

 

Tutorial Assistance:

– Assist facilitators in classes and tutorials for LLB students in various subjects as assigned.

– Assist students in understanding complex legal concepts, case law, and statutory interpretations.

– Encourage active participation and critical thinking during tutorials.

 

– Student Support:

– Offer one-on-one or group consultation sessions to assist students with coursework and exam preparation.

– Address student queries and provide additional resources or explanations as needed.

– Refer students to appropriate academic support services when necessary.

 

– Administrative Duties:

– Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.

– Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and moderation processes as required.

– Assist in the preparation of materials, including case summaries, problem sets, and model answers.

 

– Compliance and Quality Assurance:

– Adhere to institutional policies, academic standards, and confidentiality agreements.

– Ensure all academic activities are conducted in line with the institutionโ€™s code of conduct and ethics.

– Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices within the Law School.

 

3. Required Qualifications and Experience

 

– Educational Qualifications:

– A completed and impressive Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or currently enrolled in a Master of Laws (LLM) degree.

– Demonstrated academic excellence in core LLB subjects.

 

– Experience:

– Prior experience in tutoring, mentoring, or teaching.

– Strong understanding of South African law and legal principles.

 

– Skills:

– Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

– Ability to explain complex legal concepts in an accessible manner.

– Strong organisational and time-management skills.

– Attention to detail, especially in marking and providing feedback.

– Proficiency in using educational technology and learning management systems.
