Higher Certificate in Public Management (HCPM)

 

The Higher Certificate in Public Management (HCPM) helps you to develop skills to manage self, projects, people and finances. It is for people who are interested in a public service career or those who have been working in the public service and wish to get a formal qualification.

After successfully completing the HCPM programme, you will be able to inter-alia:

  • Know the core functions of financial management in public and development sector organisations
  • Understand the purpose of a monitoring and evaluation system and its link with other departmental functions
  • Identify appropriate management interventions to improve service delivery in public and development sector organisations
  • Understand customer relationship management in the context of the public and development sectors

The Higher Certificate in Public Management is aimed at those interested in pursuing a career in the public service, or those who have been working for a while in the public service and want a formal qualification in this field. The HCPM is registered at NQF Level 5 with 120 credits. The qualification is offered over a minimum period of 12 months and a maximum period of two years.

The emphasis of the module assessment is on practical application of theory. Organisation-specific projects and presentations may also be used to assess the module outcomes in an integrated manner.

  • NQF level 4 qualification or minimum age of 23 years with two years work experience (Subject to RPL process), and basic computer skills

Exemptions

  • Exemptions for HCPM modules may be considered in accordance with the academic rules and regulations
  • These must be approved by the Registrar on submission of the required information
