The National Certificate: Municipal Financial Management enables qualifying learners to apply strategic level financial management competencies to ensure effective, efficient and economical utilisation of public funds and resources at local government level. Learners will develop competencies to manage strategic planning and budgeting processes, financial management processes and internal control, auditing and reporting processes.
Business and commerce will benefit through this qualification as it will assure commonality of practice between public and private sector financial management practices
It is recommended that learners have the following pre-knowledge and/or proof of competence before enrolling on this programme:
Communication at NQF Level 4 or equivalent
Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4 or equivalent
Economics at NQF Level 4
Accounting at NQF Level 4
The National Certificate: Municipal Financial Management NQF 6 (166 credits) is a 12-month qualification that consists of seven modules and a Final Integrated Summative Assessment.

This programme is accredited by the Local Government Sector Education and training Authority (LG SETA).
On completion, the following certification will be awarded:
A LG SETA Certificate: Municipal Financial Management (NQF 6) will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete all portfolio requirements; or
A LG SETA Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete some, but not all, of the modules’ portfolio requirements. The Statement of Results will only reflect the modules successfully completed; or
A Regenesys Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all delegates who attended all training sessions, but who do not complete any portfolio requirements successfully.
