Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will be awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Regenesys Business School on Thursday June 22 2017.

We award Lifetime Achievement Awards to candidates who represent remarkable business success, possess exemplary leadership qualities, make an outstanding contribution to socio-economic development and live a life of high moral and ethical standards. This award honours Deputy President Ramaphosa’s longevity and contribution towards leadership, development and his vision for a better world.

After receiving the award, Deputy President Ramaphosa will give a short inspirational talk to selected guests.

Biography of Deputy President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa

Deputy President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa coordinates a number of key developmental programmes and interventions involving a broad range of ministries, public entities and civil society formations.

He registered to study law, became involved in student politics, was detained several times and founded the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in 1982. As NUM General Secretary, Deputy President Ramaphosa was instrumental in the establishment of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), and played a prominent role against the apartheid government. He served as chairperson of the National Reception Committee, which coordinated the release of Nelson Mandela.

Following the unbanning of the ANC, he was elected ANC Secretary General and became head of the ANC’s negotiation team at the Convention for a Democratic South Africa (CODESA) and the subsequent multi-party talks. Following South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994, he was elected as Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly and oversaw the drafting of our constitution.

Deputy President Ramaphosa moved into business, joined New Africa Investments Limited and established Shanduka Group as a black-owned investment holding company in 2001. In 2004, he established the Shanduka Foundation (now the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation), focusing on education and small business development.

Academic Background: Deputy President Ramaphosa registered to study law at the University of the North in 1972, where he became involved in student politics. He

continued his studies through the University of South Africa (UNISA) obtaining his B. Proc degree in 1981.

Deputy President Ramaphosa has received honorary doctorates from the University of Natal, the University of Port Elizabeth, the University of Cape Town, the University of the North, the University of Lesotho, the University of Venda and the University of Massachusetts (USA). He is currently the Chancellor of the University of Mpumalanga.
