Land is a vexed issue in South Africa!

“Land redistribution”, “land reform”, “land grab”, “land reclaim”, “land transformation” and “land expropriation without compensation” are discussed and debated by all South Africans. President Cyril Ramaphosa has intervened to accelerate land reform to “undo a grave historical injustice” against the black majority during colonialism and the apartheid era that ended in 1994.

The Forum will unpack in detail the opposing views on the impact of land redistribution and expropriation on the South African economy. The Forum participants will each discuss a particular topic onside the Land Question. The audience will then get an opportunity to direct questions to the forum members and have their most pressing questions answered.

Outcomes:
By attending this forum you will learn all you need to know about the amendments which may be made to Section 25 of the Constitution and how land expropriation without compensation may work. The issues of land reform, restitution, redistribution and tenure security will be explored fully. You will learn about the consequences for food security, agricultural reproduction, and the use of  state land for housing. The forum participants will consider the possible destabilising impact of land expropriation on South Africa, and discuss tools and tactics for implementation. The role of the private and business sectors will also be discussed and suggestions will be put forward to make land reform work.
