Risks, when unmanaged, could hinder the success of a project at any stage within the project management cycle. This course allows participants to explore the core concepts of risk management within the Public Sector. The course studies the process of policy and strategic decision-making by taking potential risks into account. It allows planners and decision makers to analyse potential risks and their potential impact on the success of a project. It enables participants to develop and implement a risk management procedure and provides tools and techniques to monitor and assess risk management procedures.

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:
Explaining risk management in the Public Sector;
Identify and assess the legislation relevant to risk management in the South African context;
Explain the role of risk management in governance practices;
Analyse potential risks and the impact thereof on the specific sector;
Identify types of risks;
Categorise and prioritise risk within the Public Sector context;
Identify risk management threats within the Public Sector;
Evaluate the threat a risk pose;
Developing and implementing risk management procedures;
Design a risk management procedure in accordance with legislation and sector specific codes of conduct;
Align roles, responsibilities and accountabilities to risk management procedures;
Analyse the efficacy of risk management procedures designed;
Outline reporting procedures for risk management procedures;
Measure and outline problem areas in risk management procedures; and
Revise risk management procedures for improvement.
This course is accredited by the Public Service Sector Education and Training Authority (PSETA). On completion, the following certification will be awarded:
A PSETA Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete the unit standards’ portfolio requirements; or
A Regenesys Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all delegates who attended all training sessions, but who do not complete any portfolio requirements successfully.
