Course Overview

This course will enable participants to develop an understanding of the key elements of human resource management in the public sector, as well as the capacity to critically apply theories to practical situations.

Human resource management (HRM) plays an integral role in the public sector, as its policies and practices are intended to improve service quality, efficiency and organisational effectiveness across a wide range of institutions such as public hospitals, ambulance services, law enforcement agencies, schools, revenue collection and welfare programmes.

HR functions such as selecting, recruiting, developing and retaining the right employees so that public sector agencies have the capacity to address the needs of the communities they serve and to achieve high standards of service consistently, are explored in detail.
