Project Planning

The course introduces the basic principles of project planning by examining project initiation, scope definition and scope change control. Participants will be able to develop a simple project schedule for effective project execution and monitor and control a project cost budget. Studying a range of project management tools and techniques allows participants to implement the theory.

Exit Level Outcomes

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

Contribute to the identification and co-ordination of stakeholders, their roles, needs and expectations

Contribute to the identification, description and analysis of the project needs, expectations, constraints, assumptions, exclusions, inclusions and deliverables

Contribute to preparing and producing inputs to be used for further planning activities

Contribute to monitoring the achievement of the project’s scope Identify, explain and describe the purpose and process of scheduling project activities

Define and gather project activities from technical experts and within own field expertise

Develop a simple schedule for a project or part thereof Identify elements and resources to be costed through interpreting the project scope statement, work breakdown structure and other project data

Participate in the preparation and production of a cost budget

Contribute to the monitoring and controlling of cost budget performance by maintaining records and communicating

Demonstrate an understanding of project management tools

Use a range of project management tools

Apply corrective action steps where project management tools and techniques usage problems occur

Critique and use techniques for collecting, organising and representing data

Use theoretical and experimental probability to develop models, make predictions and study problems

Critically interrogate and use probability and statistical models in problem solving and decision making in real-world situations


This course is accredited by the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Services SETA). On completion, the following certification will be awarded:

A Services SETA Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully the unit standards’ portfolio requirements. The Statement of Results will only reflect the unit standards successfully completed; or

A Regenesys Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all delegates who attended all training sessions, but who do not complete any portfolio requirements successfully.
