Mentoring and Coaching

This course is aimed at employees who need to explore leadership concepts within the work environment. Leadership theories are examined against management principles and approaches. The course is designed to apply theories, approaches and techniques in the work context.

Exit Level Outcomes

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

Analyse the needs of members of team / department;

Use a needs analysis to design a people development plan;

Understand the link between people development and succession planning;

Explain the concept of mentoring

Describe the characteristics of a good mentor;

Explain the importance of knowledge in mentoring;

Apply the skills and techniques required of a mentor;

Describe the basic principles of training;

Identify the need for coaching through discussions with the person to be coached;

Arrange a specific time and place for the coaching session, and prepare for it;

Communicate theory and knowledge associated with the coaching session;

Complete the coaching session;

Identify possible problems that may occur in relation to coaching;

Develop a plan for individual coaching, taking the needs of the team into account.


This course is accredited by the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (Services SETA). On completion, the following certification will be awarded:

A Services SETA Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully the unit standards’ portfolio requirements. The Statement of Results will only reflect the unit standards successfully completed; or

A Regenesys Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all delegates who attended all training sessions, but who do not complete any portfolio requirements successfully.
