Labour Relations Management

This skills course contains the essential information managers need in order to manage employee labour relations activities. It provides participants with an overview of the Amended Labour Relations and Amended Basic Conditions of Employment Acts.

The application of these two Acts is discussed in the course, specifically disciplinary and grievance management. Participants will also examine the requirements for contract amendments and development within the framework of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act requirements. The course allows participants to interpret the requirements of the Acts through practical application during the contact session and completion of the portfolio of evidence.

Exit Level Outcomes

Upon completing this course, you should be able to:

Draft a contract of employment in compliance with the provisions of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act;

Understand the influence of the Constitution on labour law;

Understand the latest amendments to the Labour Relations Act;

Conduct disciplinary, incompetence and incapacity hearings;

Understand the procedures to be followed in small and large-scale retrenchments;

Understand the legal consequences of a protected and unprotected strike, and

Describe the correct procedures to be followed in the dismissal of striking employees.

Certification

This programme is accredited by South African Board for People Practices (SABPP). On completion, the following certification will be awarded:

A SABPP Statement of Results will be awarded to all delegates who successfully complete some, but not all, of the unit standards’ portfolio requirements. The Statement of Results will only reflect the unit standards successfully completed; or

A Regenesys Certificate of Attendance will be awarded to all delegates who attended all training sessions, but who do not complete any portfolio requirements successfully.
